New York: Dutton, 1946

First edition. First printing. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the first free endpaper: “For Dick Strong - / with all best wishes - / your friend / Gore Vidal.” A very good copy, just with a bit of edge wear to the boards. Toning and foxing to the pastedowns and endpapers, as well to pp. 78-79, but the contents otherwise fine. In a very good or better dust jacket, price clipped and with a bit of foxing to the verso. Slight rubbing at the extremities of the jacket, but an uncommonly attractive example still. Vidal’s first novel, an autobiography of sorts written when he was 19 years old and stationed by the U.S army in the Aleutian Islands.
