London: Pyramid Books, 1990

First edition. Quarto. Original charcoal grey cloth, spine lettered in silver, pictorial dust jacket. Illustrated throughout with full-page monochrome photographs by Bob Carlos Clarke. A near fine copy with some bumping to the extremities of the spine and a brief contemporary inscription to the verso of the front free endpaper, but the text block otherwise internally flawless. In a near fine, price-clipped dust jacket with only slight rubbing to the edges and faint blemishing to the verso. An outstanding example overall, uncommon in collectible condition. The first printing of arguably the most iconic and paradigm-shifting culinary book of the late twentieth century. White Heat brought glamour to the craft and would create the blueprint for the modern celebrity chef. Featuring seventy detailed recipes from White’s tenure at Harveys, alongside Bob Carlos Clarke’s seminal black-and-white images.
