New York: Charles Scribner’s Sons, 1940
First edition. First printing, with Scribner’s A on the copyright page. In the first issue dust jacket, without the photographer’s credit on the rear panel. A fine copy, with the usual offsetting to the pastedowns. In a very good or better, unclipped dust jacket, with faint blemishes, chipping and edge wear, as well as a trace of damp stain to the rear flap. Still, an uncommonly attractive example, without the fading and loss usually seen to the spine. One of Hemingway’s greatest works, and the most enduring portrait of the Spanish Civil War.
